Every job has some absurd and ridiculous demands. Often, however, those demands become ”normal” for us–to the point where you don’t know when to quit your job. They become part of our daily routine. They become so repetitive that we forget they are actually occurring. When these demands become so normal, they become signs. They transform into beacons that say, “Hey, you should be doing something else.”
The following are 10 reasons to quit your job:
1) You’re excited because you arrived at work early enough to park on the 6th floor of the parking garage instead of the 8th floor.
2) It’s a special day because it’s 7:30 p.m., and you’re leaving work early.
3) Traffic was good today because you arrived at work in less than one hour.
4) On average, you see your infant son or daughter for a grand total of one hour every day.
5) On weekends, you check your Blackberry every hour.
6) In the evening (when you’re home) you check your Blackberry every half hour.
7) You wake up at 6 a.m. to start your day, and you already feel like you’re so behind.
8)Â You cringe when someone asks you, “How’s work?”
9) In the morning, when your spouse asks you if you want sugar with your coffee, you start crying.
10) It’s 1 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. The day before, Saturday, you didn’t get any e-mails on your Blackberry about research inquiries, emergency assignments, or requests to come in the office. Sunday morning has been clear so far. Now, on a Sunday afternoon, you can finally enjoy your weekend.

3Hey zaki, thanks for reading. It’s good that you don’t have any of these signs. That must mean that you’re happy doing what you’re doing. That’s awesome.

6Hey Debo, thanks for reading and for the RSS subscription! If you check of 7 out of 10 of these, then YES you need to quit. One can’t be happy with his or her job when the items on this list are regular occurrences.

8Hey Mark, thanks for the comment. No. 9 certainly is funny. It might be an exaggeration, but jobs tend to paralyze your decision-making in other aspects of your life.

12Lol. I need to quit too. Just have to figure something else to do first. I would love to earn a living from the Internet, but it’s not gonna happen soon, so…I think a JOB is the only answer for me right now

13Hey Anca, thanks for the comment. If you want to make a living off the Internet, then keep at it. You have what it takes, and when you do reach a sustainable level of income, it’s going to feel so great to quit that job.
