Many blogging applications now use the "no follow" tag which has been in use for some time as a method to decrease the incidence of blog comment spam - and this tag tells search engine spiders to ignore the link, I believe. Many blogging applications now use the “no follow” tag which has been in use for some time as a method to decrease the incidence of blog comment spam - and this tag tells search engine spiders to ignore the link, I believe.

This obviously is just one of them, but once you get some quality backlinks, you can focus on other areas (like content, on-site optimization, etc.).
