Sounds like a dream career, right? Well, in certain respects, it is. It’s prestigious. I encounter many challenging issues. When I do well, it feels exhilarating. The pay, of course, is also not bad.
In many other respects, however, a career at a big firm or company has drawbacks. Among them is time. This type of career demands the majority of one’s time, and that, of course, takes time away from other, more desirable, activities (such as raising a family).
The main reason, however, that a big company job is not ideal is because, like many other “jobs,” it is based on a salary. You go to work in the morning. You leave in the evening. Every two weeks, you receive your paycheck. You have to work in order to receive that paycheck. Thus, if you quit your job, you don’t get your paycheck.
I think this can be a potentially miserable existence. Working every day, every week, every month, and every year . . . until you retire . . . for a paycheck. Your access to money is controlled by someone else.
I would rather work 4 or 5 hours per week and control my own access to money. And my question is, Why can’t I do that? Why can’t I work 4 or 5 hours per week and make a living? Why can’t I determine how much I pay myself and how often?
Obviously, a lot of people don’t think this scenario (working little, making a lot) is possible. But I vehemently disagree. It certainly IS possible. We all have the capability to find ways to achieve this dream. In Robert Kiyosaki’s words, we all have the ability to make money work for us (instead of us working for money).
This type of wealth involves investing money and effort in assets that produce passive income. Securing these types of income-producing assets liberates us from our reliance on jobs, salaries, and that dreaded paycheck. Passive income enables us to entertain the thought of staying in bed in the morning. In other words, if you don’t want to get out of bed, you won’t jeopardize your paycheck.
These opportunities exist all around us. The key is finding the right niche for you. Brainstorming and thinking creatively help us find that niche. Unfortunately, jobs restrain us from this type of thinking, but we all have to make the effort. Instead of saying, “I can’t do this,” we have to focus on “How can I do this?” How can I make this product differently? How can I provide this service in a more unique way? How can I aggressively target this new opportunity and profit from it?
These questions are the right ones to ask, and they help expand our thinking to discover methods for developing passive income, cash flow, and, ultimately, wealth.
In sum, this is what makes me the person I am. “Can’t” is not in my vocabulary. I feel like I CAN achieve whatever I want, including my coveted 4-hour work week. I started this blog to brainstorm about ways to achieve this goal. I also hope I can develop a following of people who refuse to settle for jobs and salaries and, instead, strive to attain something more lucrative. This is the brand I want to create.
