It seems like you see a new blog contest every week.  Now, don’t get me wrong: I like these things.  You comply with all the submission rules, rack up as many points as possible, and try to increase your odds of winning something in the randomized drawing that takes place after the contest is finished.  (I can speak for myself: I won $2,000 worth of e-mail marketing in Winning The Web’s recent contest.)

But I have an issue with these contests: the randomized drawing at the end.  Say the contest in question gives you 15 points for blogging about it, 5 points for Digging it, 3 points per comment, etc.  You rack up all these points, and you have as good a chance as anyone to win something.  But then, the randomized drawing rolls around, and the slacker who learned about the contest two days ago and who commented once (and amassed a grand total of 3 points) wins a HUGE prize.

So much for all that work you put into it, huh?

A Different Kind of Contest

I’m happy to tell you about a different type of contest.  The University Kid’s latest contest will break two major blog-related traditions:

1) The drawing will be merit-based, not randomized.  In other words, whoever racks up the most points wins.

2) It will have fewer, but LARGER prizes.  So, kiss good-bye to the days of winning a measly 500 Entrecard credits.  The loot in this contest will blow you away.

Some Background

If you don’t already know, Jason from The University Kid launched an online community last month with Blog Premiere’s forums.  It has grown fairly rapidly, but Jason wants to build it into one of the top blogging forums on the Internet.

Unique Prizes

He aims to accomplish this goal with a different contest consisting of unique prizes.  And by unique, he means useful prizes.  Here is the loot:

How It Works

This contest, unlike others, will run on a points-based scheme.  Whoever gets the most points . . . wins!  Thus, the more action you take, the higher the likelihood of winning one of the prizes listed above.

How To Get Points

Here is the list of point totals you can accumulate and the specific actions you must complete in order to get those points:

300 Points for submitting an accepted article to Blog Premiere’s magazine.

300 Points for blogging about the contest with all sponsor links attached.

100 Points for blogging about the contest without all sponsor links attached.

50 Points for joining Blog Premiere’s forums.

10 Points for Stumbling this contest entry.

5 Points for each day you link to Blog Premiere on your website.

3 Points per thread you start on Blog Premiere.

1 Point per post you make on Blog Premiere.

This is a valuable contest to take part in because you can easily rack up a whole bunch of points, and you KNOW that the more points you have, the more of a guarantee you will have for winning something.  The prizes above are VERY USEFUL for bloggers.

Don’t waste time, and start racking up points today!  Join the contest here.
