I recently signed up for the Weekly Buzz over at Buzz My Blog.  Jeff, the blog’s owner, declares that his blog “is NOT just another ‘make money online’ blog.”  Moreover, he writes that “we CAN make money online by working together.” 

I think Jeff is right because his blog takes a unique approach with the Weekly Buzz. 

What is the Weekly Buzz?

The sole purpose of the Weekly Buzz is to give other blogs exposure and traffic.  It’s not a contest, and you don’t have to do anything burdensome or time-consuming to qualify.  All that Jeff asks is for you to sign up.  That’s it.  No RSS subscription.  Just sign up for the Weekly Buzz.

Once you’re signed up, Jeff will randomly select one blog each week to spotlight on his blog.

No strings attached.  Nothing to lose.  Sounds good to me.

How It Works

Every Monday, Jeff randomly selects one blog from the list of entries.  The selection is totally random, and you can, in fact, be selected more than once (except that you won’t be selected twice in the same one-month period). 

The winner gets the following:

1) A post exclusively about your blog.  The post contains the blog’s name, the owner’s name, a description of the blog, a Do Follow link, and some words of wisdom from the selected blogger. 

2) 300 Entrecard credits (which, Jeff says, will increase as more people sign up for the Weekly Buzz).  

3) A link to your blog included in a list of the last four Weekly Buzz winners at the top of the home page, (which, if you think of it, gives you a link from a Pagerank 4 blog for an entire month).

4) From time to time, Jeff will also give away special prizes like free traffic, free ad spots, etc.

How to Improve Your Chance of Winning

To increase your odds of winning, refer other users to the Weekly Buzz using a link that Jeff provides you.  For each user you refer, Jeff permanently gives you one additional chance of winning.  There is no limit to the number of chances you can earn.  And, as an added bonus, Jeff might even list the top referrers on his home page with links.

A Brilliant Promotion

I think the Weekly Buzz is a very effective way to promote Buzz My Blog.  Instead of a one-time contest that gives you a spike in traffic and RSS subscriptions while the contest is ongoing, the Weekly Buzz is an ongoing, permanent contest that, week to week, increases traffic and attracts RSS subscriptions. 

Jeff has created a nice model to learn from, and he has also wrapped it in the mentality that, as bloggers, we should all help each other out.  The Weekly Buzz does just that.  It helps other bloggers get significant exposure from a Pagerank 4 blog, and it increases its own exposure and traffic.
