ChiQ Montes, thanks for commenting. SEO is the most useful (and cheapest) tool out there to drive traffic to your site.

Paul U, thanks for the comment. To get to #1 on Google isn't as hard as you think. It involves a combination of both, on-page AND off-page optimization.

Josh, I'm glad you agree. I like reading your blog, and I knew that you HAD to have known that "unconventional marketing" wasn't a highly-searched keyword phrase. You're a smart guy, and I just knew that something wasn't right (i.e., you had left out in your post that you were just excited that you had gotten to #1 for that keyword, etc.). Anyway, thanks for not taking this post the wrong way. :-)

By the way, I fixed the error (i.e., changed "John" to "Josh").

On a separate note you introduce me as John in the first sentence not Josh. ;)

Joshs last blog post..<a href="http://www.joshwhitford.com/2008/07/29/the-mlms-best-friend-john-leonard/" rel="nofollow">The MLM’s best friend, John Leonard</a>

You are totally correct in your assessment. I was merely excited that I had achieved #1 for that particular keyword due to its relationship to my blog. Typically when I target new keywords I aim for at least 10k searches a month and work my way up those ladders. I probably only get 200-300 hits a month from google for unconventional marketing as the key term, it is not widely used. I am also shooting for number 1 for my name and I know only a couple of people search that each month. I don't just aim for high traffic keywords but keywords that are important to me as well, unconventional marketing is one of those.
