For today’s YouTube Friday, I thought I’d post an informative video about SEO and link-building.  I’ve explained before that SEO involves two phases: on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

On-page optimization has to do with optimizing your website with specific keywords and keywords phrases that people are searching for.  Your site ranks higher for certain keywords when you place those keywords in the right places (title, URL, text, tags).

But on-page optimization is only the beginning.  Off-page optimization is just as, if not more, important.  Off-page optimization is all about link-building.  It involves acquiring links to your site from other sites.  The video below explains very simply what link-building is all about and why it matters.

A few of the topics covered:

  • Links are citations to, or “votes” for, your website.
  • Links to your site reflect the quality of your site.
  • How to find who is linking to you.
